Your engine depends on oil to survive. It lowers friction, carries heat away, lubricates metal parts and seals the gap between the pistons, rings and cylinder walls. Without fresh oil doing that cleaning work, carbon and sludge build up and the damage is permanent.
The intervals we actually recommend
Full synthetic oil in a modern engine driven mostly on the highway will comfortably go 8,000 to 12,000 km. Semi synthetic sits closer to 6,000 to 8,000 km. But short trips, cold Hamilton winters and stop-and-go city driving are the hardest conditions there are, so if that is your commute, shorten the interval.
Do not skip the filter
A new filter costs a few dollars and is the only thing catching the grit before it goes back through your engine. We drain, refill and replace the filter every time — never one without the other.
